American Tribal Style Belly Dance (ATS)
ATS is a form of belly dance created in America by Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman in the 1970’s. Since then Carolena has constructed particular moves that are copy right to her company in San Francisco. Others who love the style have created different moves (not approved of the copy right) and Carolena, seeing that people needed some creative leniency, allowed people to create freely as long as it is called ‘Improvisational Tribal Style’ (ITS).
This wonderfully colourful dance requires a group (tribe) of people in order for the choreography to look complete and impressive. ‘Flocking’ and ‘dance cues’ are used to create a finished looking choreography. Even when there are slight differences between each tribe member’s style creates a charming interesting piece.
In this workshop Una will teach some of the basic moves, combinations, and cues to form a basic, but impressive, platform to immediately perform and play with anybody who has learned the moves.
This dance is most effective with long flowing skirts, scarves, and tassel belts. Flowers in the hair or turban, tribal make up, as well as tribal or gypsy-like outfit helps feeling good energy and contributes to the dancer, tribe-mates and audience.
